ICONMUNICATE. reimagines communication in the post-pandemic era, where masks still hinder interactions in some scenarios. Inspired by emojis, the concept introduces a series of products that attach to masks, necks, and collars. These devices enhance communication by displaying emojis and key dialogue words in an efficient and playful manner.

Context

In the post-pandemic era, masks remain a common habit in some regions and obscure facial expressions and mouth movements. To approach the challenge, I explored alternatives and found that combination of key words and visual indicators can effectively enhance expression.

Concept

The concept features wearable devices with built-in AI that summarise key sentence information into a few words and display related icons, enhancing and enlivening communication. Additionally, hardware prototypes were developed to validate the technical feasibility and interaction design.

Process

The exploration began with ideating wearable concepts for the face, focusing on ergonomics to determine the optimal information display method. Multiple directions were explored, and foam and cardboard models were created to finalise the concept, prioritising ergonomics, intuitiveness, and convenience.
